A long allegorical poem in free verse, the tale of Kaïdara recounts the journey of three men on the path to self-knowledge and understanding of the world. Guided by a powerful, omniscient voice, Hammadi, Hamtoudo, and Dembourou travel to the land of the dwarf genies, where they will meet the god Kaïdara.
A metaphor for the cosmos, Kaïdara is an emanation of Guéno, the almighty god of the Fulani pantheon. Without revealing to the travelers the secret meanings of the mysteries they have encountered, Kaïdara offers each of them three oxen laden with gold, urging them to put it to good use.
