Since meeting each other, Pierre, the photographer, and Gilles, the painter, have been mixing their techniques and breathing new life into art through their photo-paintings. Together, they create portraits that transform and immortalise, with sophisticated stagings, celebrities from pop music or film, but also the perfect figures of young unknowns, or the charm of young girls in flower.
Troubled Waters at Spritmuseum is based on work from the past two years, with the ocean as a central motif. Several pieces were exhibited in Errances Immobiles (Immobile Wandering) at Galerie Templon in Paris in 2020, but the artists have added a number of older pieces relating to the harbour setting where Spritmuseum is situated. Several pieces are being exhibited for the first time.
The romantic image of the sea and the sailing life are contrasted with the contemporary overexploitation that today threatens all marine life. Here on land, pretty seamen and seductresses live ever day as if it were their last. But in the ocean just off shore, full of rubbish smothering the ruins of ancient, sunken cities, mythological figures and saintly spirits move through a miror world that has still not stopped glittering.
